Welcome to the Lady Margaret Boat Club

The Lady Margaret Boat Club is the oldest boat club in Cambridge and the largest of all college clubs. Founded in 1825 by twelve members of St. John's College, it has an illustrious history, with numerous Henley wins and Olympians amongst its membership, and continues to compete at a high level both locally and nationally.
Around a third of the members of college row or cox in the club at some point during their time in Cambridge, with levels of commitment ranging from the first boats competing for the Bumps headships and racing regularly outside Cambridge, including at Henley Royal Regatta and Women's Henley, to the lower boats catering for people aiming simply to have a good time and keep fit. You can find more information on joining the club here.
The club has excellent facilities with a recently renovated boathouse, a large number and variety of boats, and a well equipped gym with eight Concept2 ergos and a free weights area. This equipment has been acquired thanks to donations, including from old members of the club, either directly or through the LMBC Association.
Information for new members - Welcome!
Hi all, and welcome to the LMBC website. Many of you who are new to the university and to rowing won't have seen quite how big rowing at Cambridge is. Michaelmas term has many competitions exclusively for those who have never rowed before coming to Cambridge, and Johnians are lucky - LMBC are consistently one of the biggest and best college rowing clubs. So whether you're looking to enjoy a massive social scene, take your sport seriously or just offset a heavy student lifestyle with something fun and active, it can all be found here.
Sounds interesting? Email your Lower Boats' Captain Ed or Fran for more info and most importantly to try some rowing for yourself. You won't be asked to join the club before you've had the chance to see whether you like rowing, so it's definitely worth a try!
Browse through the website to find out more about the history of the club, the different races we do, and photos of LMBC boaties in action. If you're not sure where to start, below are some links to recent novice action, the sort of things you would be doing as a novice in the first term with LMBC.
Enjoy!
